In recent days I’ve seen a few comments crop up on the YouTube channel essentially dragging me for not being a “real pilot” - not owning or operating any of the aircraft we all simulate flying in the simulator.
Only a dyslexic illiterate moron could ever accuse you of such claims, seeing as you state quite clearly that you are not a real pilot. on your excellent YouTube channel.
Don't let the buffoons get at you.
You provide a very useful service for inept simmers like me to get better. I've been involved in this fabulous hobby since the first flight sim (a very cranky single line drawing image of a B747) in Microsoft Color Basic predating the Speccy and FS 95 by about 6 years, and I still can't master landings. One day with your inadvertent help I will do it.
Jon, I am a"real pilot" ... flew for a few years back in the 70's and 80's so I am not current and a lot has changed from then till now ... your tutorial videos have been EXTREEMELY helpful in updating my knowledge base. I applaud your level of detail and ability to provide guidance in a logical and common sense way. Never mind the naysayers, sadly others seem to have to knock others in an attempt to make themselves feel more important. Keep up the great work, love your channel.
Cheers Randy :) I'll be doing some more "real world" related content soon - looking at radio telephony, sectors, and so on - which will become easy to demonstrate with the advent of AI ATC :)
This type of thing always disappoints me...However, I also realize that someone is always going to be a "downer" because they just can't help it; as in "let's find "fault" in anything". It never dawned on me that you MIGHT not be a pilot because this is MSFS; not flight school. I think it's called "perspective". As the gentleman said below: Keep doing these vids Jonathan, you are a fine source of learning and enjoyment. The Trolls will always be out there; I just choose to ignore them and you should too.
As a matter of fact, I do watch your videos frequently and have enjoyed them a lot besides having learned a lot from your shared experiences. In that time, it has never passed through my mind whether you are a "Real" pilot or not, It does not matter to me the slightest. What is important to me is that your tutorials, if I may call them so, are very easy to follow and pleasant to listen to and watch. What I like in particular is that you take your time explaining things which I believe is important in order to take it all in and be able to follow all the procedures. I don't want to down grade anyone or try to score some points but, I wish there were more of those who take their time and don't assume that we know what they might see as simple things. Many of us are new in this game of flights and we are looking for guidance while having fun as well. Another one of my favorites is the BritishAvgeek, whether he is a real pilot or not, I don't care. What matters to me is that he is very good at explaining, he is knowledgeable pleasant and takes the time. Jonathan, please do not take these negative comments too seriously, they are probably from people who are not too sure of themselves and and find solace in putting others down.
We need you to continue putting out instructions on video so we can continue learning.
The reality is that a person needs to be a Certified Pilot in Real Life ONLY if flying a real plane... the point is moot in the simworld environment isn't it?
Accuracy, honest representation, knowledge and entertainment is what should be produced by the online flight sim community.
Thank you for all your work JB, it is exceptional.
I am not a pilot, and I am not even a very proficient simmer. I do love it, though, so I return to your channel again and again to learn and to enjoy your channel.
You have a way of explaining things that works for me. You also concentrate on the GA aircraft I love best. I appreciate what you have created, Mr. Beckett.
I think you find a wide cross-section of people in most aspects of life :) On about the simple start-up procedures, I intentionally remove most extraneous steps from the procedures - if people wish, they can of course embellish them with more and more "real world" steps :)
I'm not a real pilot either. I love your channel. It's actually made me start trying to fly more realistically in MSFS. I spent a couple of hours at the weekend just trying to do circuits properly. I do have aspirations to learn to fly, but cost is prohibitive just now. So simming is the next best thing.
Don't let keyboard warriors, or mansplainers put you off. You're channel is entertaining and educational. Happy flying!
Jonathan, i have commented on several of your youtube videos as Reptilian Dojo thats my band just so you may remember. I am a private pilot GA from the Ann arbor mi area USA. I have been flying for about 7 years i built a sim rig in my home office for IFR training. Your videos have been an absolute delight for me. I was able to get a handle on several different vor navigation techniques and how to use what are now some of my favorite planes in the sim. Your videos and instruction in them have made my sim experience an absolute delight. I work as an electrical estimator and project manager and i often while doing office work play and listen to your videos to help the day go bye. It has never occured to me that you were not a "REAL" Pilot. Did people forget it is a sim and the info you provide always states that. Also real pilot training and ground school as you may have learned in the pooley kit is very easily practiced in the sim especially in the 152. I personally apreciate all of your work the style and honesty. Thankyou my good sir for all your efforts. I recently joined virtual flight and soon the discord and hope to get in on some of the group flights. Keep up the good work have a blessed day!
I am very sorry that you have received such criticism - whether or not you are a real pilot or not has never crossed my mind - you are helping me at a time (just starting out in simulation - always asking questions but not experienced enough to "put anything back") when I need all the help I can get! You certainly don't need to apologize to anyone. I just hope you can put this behind you and not worry about everything you say for fear that you'll be taken the wrong way.
I get a tremendous amount of help from each and every one of your videos - just keep on doing what you've been doing!!
I am a new subscriber and just stumbled across your channel Friday. So far I love your content and your blog and I’m really looking forward to consuming much more of what you have put out there. Your delivery and tone on your videos are excellent and your videos are informative, interesting, intelligent, and overall just well made. Your concise and don’t ramble and there isn’t a hint of arrogance or self promotion which is far too common today. I read your apology and I am sorry that you felt you had to write one to whoever gave you a hard time previously. I respect and appreciate your honesty about not being a real pilot and labeling yourself a flight Sim enthusiast because that’s what I am. You’re sharing what you’re learning and experiencing as a non-pilot the same as probably most of your subscribers including me. This to me makes your content much more valuable to me and others like me so thank you and keep the content coming!

Flight sim enthusiasts can be some of the most immature and childish of adults I found. Mostly just being online.
I love your channel and find your information valuable to this hobby.
Your recent start up with the DC6 was easier than anyone I've seen.

Real pilot here. Please keep your videos coming. They are both informative and fun!

Keep up the excellent work Johathan, your one of my favourite YouTubers for flight sim.
Cheers Mick :)
