A viewer of the channel messaged me a few days ago with a raft of questions about configuring the 737-800 in Microsoft Flight Simulator, with a particular concern for managing guidance, controlling LNAV and VNAV, and then the transition to "Approach Mode" and ILS while on approach.
It's been a while since I've flown the 737, so this is necessarily not a "reference flight", but we do talk about the various subjects along the way, and the functional interconnects between the different navigation modes and programming required in the FMC and MCP to achieve a given route.
Disclaimer - I'm obviously not a 737 pilot, so I might not do everything "by the book", and will miss out lots of tests and validations along the way. I will also inevitably wonder "what happens if I do this?" - which I nearly did on approach :)
Just noticed that I didn't come back out of STD barometric pressure on approach - there's always something :) Talking, explaining and doing is HARD. I even talked about the local barometric pressure en-route - I just never got around to setting it! This is why crews use checklists :)
