Solving the pushback bug in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
Ever since Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 arrived, there has been a bug within the simulator that sometimes (or quite often, it seems) stops aircraft from either taxiing, or being pushed back. After a little tinkering last night I found a solution. This may solve it for you too.
It’s worth noting that I have the Thrustmaster Airbus stick and throttle quadrant - which may or may not be connected to the problem. It’s also worth noting that I dread researching problems on the internet, because it’s so difficult to cut through the unrelated, or flat-out untrue assertations made by so many (the blind leading the blind).
Anyway - here’s what I did:
Visit the Settings / Controls page within the simulator
Select the T.A320 Pilot controller (which has a throttle slider on it)
Remove the throttle mapping from the slider on the joystick.
Search for the word “brake” within the settings
Assign the LEFT BRAKE AXIS and RIGHT BRAKE AXIS to the slider on the joystick.
Edit the configuration of each mapping, and REVERSE the axis.
When operating the aircraft, just make sure you’ve pulled the slider on the joystick all the way back - meaning no brakes are applied.
That’s it!
It would appear - for whatever reason - if you don’t have something mapped to the left and right brake axis, the simulator can think the left and right brakes are ON - which stops pushback, or taxi. By having something mapped to them, they receive a signal, and set themselves to that signal.
Good luck trying it out, if you’ve seen this problem too.
